Cambodian Information Minister Emphasizes Skills and Achievements in Civil Service

Phnom penh: Minister of Information H.E. Neth Pheaktra underscored the importance of competence, talent, and tangible achievements for officials in the royal government, highlighting these as crucial for national service. This statement came during the inauguration of a five-day human resource management training course aimed at enhancing the skills of government officials.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Minister Pheaktra articulated that these attributes align with the broader policies of the Royal Government and are integral to the strategic plans of all ministries. The training, held at the ministry's headquarters, involves more than 100 officials from various levels of government and runs from September 8 to 12, 2025.

Minister Pheaktra pointed out the progress in Cambodia's human resources capabilities, noting a significant reduction in reliance on foreign consultants. He emphasized that Cambodian experts are now adept at handling complex tasks, with some providing consultancy services internationally. This shift, he noted, illustrates the development of Cambodia's human capital.

The Minister stressed the need for the Ministry of Information to continue enhancing the skills of its officials to ensure they are capable and results-oriented. He also highlighted the importance of foreign language training, particularly in English, with potential expansions to include Chinese.

Minister Pheaktra further addressed the recruitment process for new officials, emphasizing the importance of conducting fair and transparent examinations. He made it clear that knowledge, not financial incentives, would determine entry into the civil service within the ministry.
