Cambodian Senate President Confirms Phone Conversation with Thai PM

Phnom Penh: Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia, has confirmed the authenticity of a leaked audio recording of his phone conversation with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Samdech Techo Hun Sen shared details of the call in a message on his official social media platform. The conversation took place on the evening of June 15, 2025, lasting 17 minutes and 6 seconds, with Phnom Penh Deputy Governor Khleang Huot serving as interpreter. He explained that recording the conversation was a necessary measure to ensure transparency and prevent misunderstandings in official matters, especially for internal Cambodian purposes.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen revealed that he had distributed the audio recording to approximately 80 individuals, including members of the party’s standing committee, Senate working groups, National Assembly teams, and various task forces and units. He suggested that someone within this group may have disapproved of the Thai Prime Minister, which could have led to the leak. Shortly after the conversation, the Thai leader accused the Cambodian leadership of engaging in ‘unprofessional’ politics through social media, an action that contradicted their stated intentions.

Regarding the leaked audio, Samdech Techo Hun Sen noted that only around nine minutes have been made public. He expressed his willingness to release the full 17-minute and 6-second recording if requested by the Thai side.
