Cambodian-Thai Border Remains Open Despite Speculation of Closures

Phnom Penh: As of June 2, all Cambodian-Thai border crossings and checkpoints remain open, despite some speculation about potential closure. Meanwhile, Cambodians living along the border have expressed opposition to any such action.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the update was confirmed following its investigation into claims from some sources suggesting that Thailand planned to unilaterally shut down the border crossings and checkpoints.

The speculation arose after a recent incident in which Thai forces illegally opened fire on a Cambodian trench, resulting in the tragic death of a Cambodian soldier. Despite this tension, the border crossings remain operational.

There are six main border crossings and ten checkpoints between Cambodia and Thailand, and all are functioning normally. Cambodian residents in these areas have emphasized the importance of keeping these entry points open to sustain cross-border trade and tourism that benefit both countries.
