Phnom penh: China has reaffirmed its unwavering support for Cambodia in maintaining its sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, allowing the nation to pursue a development path aligned with its national conditions. This commitment underscores China's dedication to assisting Cambodia in enhancing its role in international and regional affairs.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the pledge was made by Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, H.E. Wang Wenbin, who emphasized the resilience of the Khmer people, stating, "The Khmer people are a great nation. No difficulty can stop Cambodia's progress." His remarks highlight China's intention to support Cambodia amid ongoing challenges, including a border dispute with Thailand.
Addressing this dispute, Ambassador Wang expressed China's intention to play a constructive role in facilitating the effective implementation of the ceasefire agreement and working toward restoring peace and stability along the Cambodia-Thailand border. This involvement aims to contribute to a swift resolution of the conflict.
In a gesture of humanitarian support, H.E. Wang Wenbin announced a donation of US$100,000 to aid civilians displaced by recent armed clashes. The funds are designated for residents taking refuge at the Phnom Thmar Kambor Pagoda refugee camp located in Por Chas village, Beng commune, Banteay Ampil district, Oddar Meanchey province.
The ambassador's announcement followed a field visit conducted by a delegation of foreign ambassadors and representatives from 22 countries and four international organizations. The delegation, led by H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, visited areas affected by the border clashes, including displacement camps in Oddar Meanchey and Preah Vihear provinces.
China's partnership with Cambodia remains significant in the realm of socio-economic development. The diplomatic ties between the two nations were formally established on July 19, 1958, and have been strengthened over the years through the efforts of successive leaders. In 2010, their relationship was elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership of Cooperation.
