Siem reap: The Japanese government has pledged full support for Cambodia's post-conflict recovery efforts following recent armed clashes with Thailand, while reaffirming its commitment to fostering a durable ceasefire between the two nations.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the announcement was made by Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia, H.E. Ueno Atsushi, to the media during a visit to a temporary shelter at Prasat Banteay Srei Pagoda in Siem Reap province this morning. The shelter currently houses over 1,000 displaced families affected by the conflict. Ambassador Ueno joined a delegation led by H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, alongside diplomats and representatives of international organisations.
'I extend my deepest condolences to the families of fallen soldiers and all those impacted by the recent conflict,' said Ambassador Ueno. 'Japan remains committed to supporting a swift and lasting peace. We will spare no effort in assisting Cambodia's recovery and reinforcing stability in the region.'
The Ambassador commended Cambodia's adherence to the ceasefire agreement, which took effect on July 29, 2025, and expressed optimism that continued dialogue would solidify the truce. He highlighted the upcoming General Border Committee (GBC) meeting between Cambodia and Thailand, set for Aug. 4-7, 2025 in Malaysia, as a pivotal opportunity to advance peace negotiations.
'We hope the GBC talks will yield meaningful progress toward long-term stability for both nations,' he added.
Japan's pledge underscores its ongoing role as a key partner in Cambodia's development and regional peacebuilding efforts.
