Despite International Calls for Ceasefire, Thailand Continues Aggression, Says Cambodian Defence Spokesperson

Phnom penh: Despite strong appeals from the international community-including the United Nations Secretary-General and the President of the United States-for a ceasefire and peaceful resolution to the ongoing border clashes, Thailand has continued its acts of aggression against Cambodia, stated Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, speaking at a press briefing this morning, said Thai forces continued aggressive actions against Cambodian targets at around 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 27, in multiple areas along the border.

She reported that more than 80,000 people have now been evacuated due to the ongoing conflict, while 130,000 students from 536 schools in 14 border districts have been impacted by Thailand's military actions.

While the situation in some areas along the border has remained calm, the spokesperson noted that Thai forces continue to mobilise, particularly near the borders of Battambang, Pursat, and Banteay Meanchey provinces.
