Phnom penh: H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, has shared key insights on Cambodia's education reform, noting significant improvements and growing recognition of educational quality nationwide. Since 2014, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS) has turned challenges into opportunities to strengthen inclusive and equitable education. Reform measures have included strengthening school inspections, redesigning curricula, and revising key textbooks, alongside the implementation of the Teacher Policy, the Deputy Prime Minister told reporters during his inspection of the first day of the 2025 high school examination at Preah Sisowath High School in Phnom Penh this morning.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Hun Many, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Civil Service, and H.E. Pa Socheatevong, Chairman of the National Assembly's Commission on Education, Youth, Sports, Cults, Religious Affairs, Culture, Fine Arts and Tourism (7th Commission), also joined the inspection.

On the issue of teacher remuneration, H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron underlined that teachers' salaries have tripled on average over the past 12 years. He added that about 75 percent of students who achieved grades A, B, and C have applied to become teachers. 'This shows that MoEYS has succeeded in attracting capable individuals into the teaching profession,' he said, highlighting the ministry's Strategic Plan for Teacher Education Reform to ensure teachers are competent and well-prepared for the 21st-century workforce.

To date, 4,500 new school buildings have been constructed under the leadership of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, current President of the Senate and former Prime Minister, and Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister. In addition, more than 1,000 school buildings have been built by MoEYS and its development partners, he added.
