Xiamen: H.E. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia, engaged in discussions with H.E. Zhao Long, Governor of China's Fujian Province, focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation in investment and trade. The meeting occurred alongside the 25th China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) in Xiamen, Fujian Province.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Governor Zhao Long expressed gratitude to H.E. Sun Chanthol for participating in CIFIT and highlighted Fujian Province's economic potential and its longstanding partnership with Cambodia. Zhao Long emphasized the desire to continue strengthening bilateral ties, particularly in the realms of investment and trade.
In his remarks, H.E. Sun Chanthol acknowledged the warm reception extended to the Cambodian delegation and commended the strong relationship between Cambodia and China. He highlighted the role of leadership from both nations in fostering this relationship, referencing Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Cambodia in April 2025 as a pivotal moment.
H.E. Sun Chanthol reiterated China's status as Cambodia's largest partner and expressed appreciation for the encouragement of Chinese investments in Cambodia. He advocated for further promotion of Chinese investment through platforms like CIFIT and recognized China's ongoing support in infrastructure development, including roads and bridges.
The Deputy Prime Minister specifically mentioned the Funan Techo Canal, a significant project aimed at boosting waterway connectivity and enhancing irrigation systems, thereby promoting economic growth in Cambodia's southern regions.
