Foreign Ministry Highlights Cambodia’s Diplomatic Endeavours for Peaceful Settlement of Conflict with Thailand

Hanoi: Cambodia has pursued multi-track diplomatic endeavours at the bilateral, regional, and international levels, while complementing these efforts with transparency and humanitarian measures, aimed at achieving a peaceful solution to the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict. The remarks were made by H.E. Chum Sounry, Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, at a press briefing this morning. "This comprehensive approach reaffirms Cambodia's steadfast commitment to the de-escalation of tensions, the peaceful settlement of dispute, the protection of civilians, and the upholding of international law," he emphasised. According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the endeavours range from participating in border committee meetings under the MoU 2000, formal protests with Thai government against unilateral Thai military action to peace talks brokered by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the rotating ASEAN Chair, with the active participation and strong sup port of the United States and China in Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur of Malaysia. These negotiations resulted in both parties, Cambodia and Thailand, agreeing to a ceasefire on July 28, 2025 and the 13-point agreement on 7 Aug. 7, 2025, as well as the facilitation of a ceasefire observer team. Moreover, Cambodia has actively engaged in the international and multilateral frameworks, both within and beyond the UN, to address the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict, underlining its commitment to resolving disputes peacefully and in accordance with international law. In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has conducted a series of briefings and field visits to affected border areas aiming at ensuring transparency and complementing Cambodia's multi-track diplomatic endeavours - bilateral, regional and multilateral - towards peaceful resolution.
