Cambodia Calls on Thailand for Sincere Ceasefire Implementation

Phnom penh: Cambodia this afternoon called on Thailand to demonstrate responsibility and sincerity by fully honoring the ceasefire agreements already signed. As a state party to the United Nations and ASEAN, Thailand has an obligation to uphold the commitments it undertook in Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur, stated H.E. Chum Sounry, Secretary of State and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, during a press briefing in Phnom Penh.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Cambodia urges Thailand to cease actions that undermine the truce, to prevent further incidents that endanger civilians, and to work in partnership with Cambodia and ASEAN mechanisms to maintain peace and stability. The spokesperson reaffirmed Cambodia's unwavering commitment to the full and effective implementation of the ceasefire agreement reached on July 28, 2025, in Putrajaya-brokered by Malaysia with the active participation of the U.S. and China, and strongly supported by regional and international partners-and further reaffirmed at the Extraordinary General Border Committee Meeting on August 7, 2025, in Kuala Lumpur.

He noted with regret that, despite Cambodia's strict adherence, repeated violations by the other side continue to undermine the fragile truce, putting at risk not only military personnel but also thousands of civilians living in the border provinces. In this context, Cambodia has deliberately chosen restraint over retaliation, being mindful that escalation would only worsen the humanitarian situation and further displace vulnerable populations.

'Cambodia underscores that the ceasefire is a humanitarian necessity. Its implementation protects villagers from crossfire, facilitates the safe return of displaced families, and allows humanitarian agencies such as the International Committee of the Red Cross, UN agencies, and NGOs to deliver life-saving assistance to affected communities,' H.E. Chum Sounry emphasised. 'Adherence to these agreements also reflects Cambodia's consistent respect for the principles of the United Nations Charter, including the prohibition of the use of force, and demonstrates its determination to pursue dialogue and peaceful settlement.'.
