Give Blood, Save Lives Kicked Off in Siem Reap to Increase Donation

Siem Reap: Cambodia expands its blood donation campaign to Siem Reap province, as the country needs around 180,000 units (approximately 450 ml) of blood annually. Director of the National Blood Transfusion Centre Cambodia (NBTC) Dr. Sok Po and Siem Reap Deputy Provincial Governor Mr. Neak Neron chaired the launch of the Give Blood, Save Lives campaign on April 24 at Siem Reap provincial city.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Dr. Sok Po emphasized that Cambodia has a demand for one unit of blood every five minutes, or around 180,000 units every year. He highlighted that Phnom Penh alone requires up to 350 units of blood daily, urging the public to continue donating blood to save lives.

Dr. Sok Po also mentioned that donating blood benefits donors by updating them on their health status, including symptoms of hepatitis B, syphilis, and AIDS. It can also reduce the risk of having cancer and high blood pressure, excessive iron in their blood, and weight gain.

Mr. Neak Neron echoed the call, stating that donating blood is an expression of love, a good deed, and compassion. He supported the campaign that unifies people from all walks of life, including the public and private sectors, for humanitarian acts.
