Government Spokesperson Highlights Positive Outcomes of Full Month of Ceasefire Implementation

Putrajaya: During the first full month of implementing the ceasefire reached in Putrajaya, Malaysia (July 28-August 28), many efforts have been made by Cambodia, Thailand, and other relevant parties, resulting in continuous positive outcomes that have so far prevented renewed armed clashes, said H.E. Pen Bona, Head of the Royal Government Spokesperson Unit, at a press briefing this morning.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Extraordinary Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) on Aug. 7 in Kuala Lumpur led to the creation of 13-point Agreed Minutes, observed by representatives from the United States, China, and Malaysia. Following this, four meetings of the Regional Border Committee (RGC) between military regions of both countries took place, which reached several agreements demonstrating both sides' commitment to maintaining communication and resolving problems to de-escalate tensions and avoid renewed armed clashes.

In addition, both sides have respectively organized multiple diplomatic visits and field inspection visits coordinated by the Interim Observer Team (IOT), composed of foreign military attach©s based in each country, to the border area affected by the armed clashes, the government spokesperson added.

Furthermore, he continued, top leaders of Cambodia, Thailand, and Malaysia have maintained constant communication to discuss and resolve issues aiming to ease tensions and uphold the ceasefire sustainably.

At the same time, unity among Cambodians remains strong, both at home and abroad, as they stand together to safeguard peace and demand the release of the 18 Cambodian military personnel who were unlawfully detained by Thai forces since the early morning of July 29. They are also focused on protecting national sovereignty and territorial integrity with dignity, non-violence, and patience, worthy of a people with high moral and cultural values, H.E.
