Hollywood Actress Angelina Jolie Supports Zero Snaring’s Campaign

Ms. Angelina Jolie, a well-known Hollywood actress, has expressed her support for the Zero Snaring’s campaign in Southeast Asia, particularly Cambodia, whose second phase was launched on June 22, 2023 in Battambang and Pailin provinces – the last of the 12 targeted provinces across the Kingdom.

In a recent message on her official Instagram, she wrote, “Southeast Asia is one of the most biologically diverse regions on Earth. The widespread use of snares is threatening the balance of this environment. Snares are animal traps shaped in the from of flexible noses made of cable, wire, or rope, and have caused a major decline in wildlife populations”.

“A Zero Snaring campaign was launched in Cambodia last year and has resulted in the removal of an estimated 40 percent of snares, and the confiscation of 50 percent of homemade guns, in protected areas like the one where my family has worked with a local team for over twenty years to try slow deforestation and protect the forest and its wildlife,” she added.

Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation (MJP) is among key development partners supporting the Zero Snaring campaign aimed to protect Cambodia’s wildlife.

Representatives of participating partners echoed undeniable fact that the loss of wildlife and biodiversity will cause ecological imbalances, hurt local and national economy in medium and long runs, and make households and the community suffer.

The Cambodian Ministry of Environment and competent provincial authorities along with the partners also took the opportunity to call on public engagement, particularly to stop eating, trading, and poaching wild animals.
