Banteay meanchey: H.E. UENO Atsushi, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia, has conducted his second visit to the Cambodia-Thailand border area affected by the recent armed clashes, expressing once again his deep concern and sympathy for the affected population.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Ambassador UENO participated in a field visit program to the border area in Banteay Meanchey and Oddar Meanchey provinces. The visit was hosted by H.E. Mr. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, alongside other ambassadors. This marks his second visit to the border area since the outbreak of military clashes in late July, as shared on the Embassy's Facebook page.
During the visit, the Ambassador received briefings from officials of the Royal Government of Cambodia and local authorities on the latest border situation. He observed the situation on the ground and witnessed the plight of many people who have yet to resume their normal daily lives, which he described as heartbreaking.
Ambassador UENO reaffirmed the commitment of the Japanese government and himself to ensure that the ceasefire becomes more sustainable. He emphasized the need for people in the border area to return to peaceful and quiet lives as soon as possible. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of swiftly addressing the economic impacts on Cambodia caused by border issues, including those affecting the operations of Japanese companies in the country.
