Korean Government Expands ICT and STEM Cooperation in Cambodia

Phnom penh: Fifty participants, including secondary school teachers of Khmer, mathematics, and science from nine provinces, along with officials from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports responsible for curriculum and teacher training, are taking part in a nine-day training programme in Phnom Penh.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, this training programme is conducted from September 17-25, 2025, by the Government of the Republic of Korea through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation (KICE), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. Ms. Sejin Lee, Deputy Country Director of KOICA Cambodia Office, stated that the training focuses on strengthening assessment techniques and introducing innovation. The programme aims to empower Cambodian teachers by combining curriculum-based evaluation with tools like AI to improve learning outcomes.

By the programme's end, participants are expected to present Action Plans to apply the skills and tools learned in their institutions. These outcomes aim to enhance national student achievement monitoring and advance the goals of Cambodia's Education Strategic Plan. This initiative signifies the Korean Government's ongoing cooperation with Cambodia in ICT and STEM education.

The training is also a part of the Korean Government's Capacity Improvement and Advancement for Tomorrow (CIAT) Programme, which has provided training to over 4,000 Cambodian officials and professionals since 1994. Through CIAT, Korea continues to support Cambodia in strengthening human resources, enhancing education quality, and building a more resilient and future-ready workforce.
