Tokyo: The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training and the Japan International Labour Foundation (JILAF) have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at promoting decent work and improving the living conditions of workers in the informal economy. According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the agreement was signed by H.E. Heng Sour, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, and Mr. Yasunobu Aihara, President of JILAF, during a ceremony in Tokyo, Japan, on May 26. This collaboration is part of the Supporting Grass Roots Activities (SGRA) project, which focuses on providing vocational training, financial management capacity building, and social protection support through international networks of employers and workers. H.E. Heng Sour emphasized that the agreement signifies a shared commitment to enhancing the living conditions of workers in the informal economy. This sector includes individuals working in unregistered micro, small, and medium enterprises, domestic workers, self-employed individuals such as tuk-tuk drivers, street vendors, and small-scale farmers. He also praised the ongoing cooperation between the JILAF and his ministry since 2019, which has primarily focused on supporting informal economy workers in Cambodia to ensure inclusivity and support for all.
