Phnom penh: H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi, Cambodia's Minister of Women's Affairs, recently engaged in a virtual meeting with Ms. Christine Arab, the UN Women Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, to discuss ongoing initiatives to advance gender equality.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the meeting emphasized Cambodia's achievements within the framework of the United Nations and the Beijing+30 Declaration, particularly as highlighted during the 69th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69). H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi reiterated Cambodia's dedication to promoting gender equality and women's empowerment, underscoring peace as the foundation for all development. She shared the country's successes in gender mainstreaming, elevating women's leadership, safeguarding women's rights, and addressing gender-based violence.
The discussion between the officials also covered potential new areas for collaboration to enhance the partnership between the Ministry of Women's Affairs and UN Women. Their aim is to expedite critical actions for gender transformation in Cambodia.
Ms. Arab commended Cambodia for its significant progress and initiatives in the realm of gender equality. She encouraged the nation to present its experiences and best practices at the 80th United Nations General Assembly on September 22, 2025, with a focus on advancing gender equality and preventing violence against women.
In reply, H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi affirmed her commitment to preparing case studies and reports on Cambodia's experiences for presentation at the upcoming high-level UN event.
