Phnom Penh: Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has expressed his desire to see Khmer traditional martial arts further taught and practiced in various countries.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, while receiving a delegation of Kun Khmer representatives from the U.S., led by Mr. Va Sothea from Town TV, at the Peace Palace this afternoon, the Prime Minister highlighted the Royal Government of Cambodia's commitment to supporting Khmer traditional martial arts. This includes the official inscription of Kun Bokator on the UNESCO's List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and the integration of several Khmer martial arts, such as Kun Bokator, Yutkromkhorm, and Kun Khmer, into the military.
Mr. Va Sothea noted that Kun Khmer has gained significant public support both domestically and internationally and has been widely promoted on the global stage. He further shared that Town TV, in collaboration with World Championship Kickboxing (WCK), are organising the 3rd Techo Santepheap Kun Khmer World Championship. The event, featuring Cambodian Kun Khmer fighters competing against those from the U.S., is scheduled to take place on Mar. 28, 2025, in Siem Reap province and will be broadcast live in the U.S.
Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister emphasised that this championship presents a valuable opportunity to promote Khmer martial arts as well as Cambodia on the world stage. He extended his wishes for the success of the 3rd Techo Santepheap Kun Khmer World Championship and encouraged Town TV to continue collaborating with international boxing organisations to host more international competitions.
