Possibility open for Yoon’s talks with opposition leader: presidential office

SEOUL, The possibility is open for talks between President Yoon Suk Yeol and opposition leader Lee Jae-myung, the presidential office said Tuesday, following the ruling People Power Party's defeat in last week's parliamentary elections. Yoon has not met one-on-one with Lee, chairman of the main opposition Democratic Party (DP), since taking office aside from brief encounters at official events. Lee has called again for talks with Yoon after his party won a resounding victory in last week's general elections. "Everything is open," a senior presidential official told reporters when asked about Lee's call for talks with Yoon. "President Yoon said there is nothing he cannot do for the people. I think the answer is in that" remark, the official said. However, the official emphasized the need to consider the time required for both parties to prepare for talks, especially with the new National Assembly taking office in May. Yoon could possibly hold one-on-one talks with Lee, but there is a greater likelihood of Yoon meeting with leaders of both the ruling party and other opposition parties. Source: Yonhap News Agency
