Phnom penh: Preah Vihear province hosted a landmark running event on July 7 to commemorate the 17th anniversary of the inscription of Preah Vihear Temple on the UNESCO World Heritage List (July 7, 2008 - July 7, 2025).
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the 'Preah Vihear Temple Run 2025' attracted more than 800 runners from eight countries, who competed in four race categories: 42.5 km, 22.6 km, 9 km, and 1.3 km. Preah Vihear Provincial Governor H.E. Kim Rithy, who joined the run, highlighted the event's importance as a tribute to Cambodia's cultural legacy.
The temple's listing was unanimously decided by the World Heritage Committee in Quebec City, Canada, on July 7, 2008, marking a significant achievement for Cambodia's heritage preservation efforts, noted H.E. Kim Rithy. He emphasized that the running event symbolizes national unity, pride, and the commitment of the Cambodian people to protect and promote their cultural heritage.
The race route traversed scenic landscapes and the historic surroundings of the temple, offering participants a culturally rich experience. The event was organized by 'Run with Sai' and the Preah Vihear National Authority in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, the Ministry of Tourism, the Preah Vihear Provincial Administration, and the Union of Cambodian Youth Federations.
