Royal Government of Cambodia Addresses Border Disputes with Thailand

Phnom penh: The Royal Government of Cambodia is actively working with various stakeholders to address border issues with Thailand, particularly in the O' Beichoan commune of O'Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province. A statement from the Spokesperson Unit of the Royal Government of Cambodia confirms that the Royal Government is protesting Thailand's unilateral actions through all available diplomatic channels and in accordance with international law.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has lodged three diplomatic notes with the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs and has raised the issues in various international forums and with organisations, including the United Nations. The ministry has also organised inspection visits to the affected areas, with participation from diplomats, UN agencies in Cambodia, and NGOs.

Additionally, the issues have been raised at the extraordinary meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) as well as the Cambodia-Thailand Regional Border Committee (RBC). On behalf of the Joint Border Committee (JBC), the State Secretariat for Border Affairs has sent three diplomatic notes to its Thai counterpart.

Cambodia's Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has consistently brought up these issues in meetings with foreign leaders, urging for peaceful intervention and resolution in accordance with bilateral agreements, conventions, treaties, and international law. Most recently, during his visit to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit Plus in Tianjin, China, from Aug. 30 to Sept. 1, 2025, the Prime Minister discussed the issue with Chinese leaders, United Nations Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres, and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the rotating Chair of ASEAN.

The Prime Minister requested third-party monitoring to ensure the effective implementation of a ceasefire and to peacefully resolve border issues based on international law. He also called for an end to the expansion of the conflict zone, illegal military occupation, and the forced displacement of civilians. He stressed that these actions must stop to prevent provocative actions and avoid the risk of renewed armed conflict and dangerous confrontation.

Cambodian Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has also been using diplomatic mechanisms in meetings with foreign leaders to find peaceful solutions in accordance with international law, in order to protect Cambodia's national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
