Senate President Announces ICRC Assistance Request for Cambodian Soldiers in Thai Custody

Phnom penh: Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has announced that Cambodia will seek the assistance of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to help repatriate 18 Cambodian soldiers who remain in Thai custody.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Hun Sen shared on his official social media platform that he and several colleagues are closely monitoring the situation via video systems, alongside Samdech Tea Banh and Army Commander Mao Sophan. This follows the departure of General Vong Pisen, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, who is heading to Malaysia for a meeting.

In a separate command center, Prime Minister Hun Manet and his team are actively working to contact the ICRC to secure the return of the soldiers. These soldiers were captured by Thailand after a ceasefire took effect and have not yet been repatriated.

Hun Sen also mentioned that he and his wife spoke with some frontline commanders. These commanders are strictly adhering to the ceasefire while remaining on high alert for any potential violations by the opposing side.
