Phnom Penh: Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has voiced his strong support for Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet's plan to bring border issues with Thailand to the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, a recent social media post by the Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet confirmed Cambodia's intention to address the border disputes concerning the Emerald Triangle area (Mom Bei), Ta Moan Thom Temple, Ta Moan Toch Temple, and Ta Krabey Temple at the ICJ. The Senate President emphasized his full support for this initiative, citing the failure of the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to effectively clarify the border issues. This failure has led to frequent accusations and several armed conflicts in the past.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen further stated that if Thailand is sincere about resolving the issue, they should jointly agree to present the case before the court, eliminating the need for Cambodia to file a complaint unilaterally. He also posed an open question regarding Thailand's willingness to engage in this legal process, urging both countries to maintain peace while preparing to defend against any potential aggression.
