Phnom penh: The Royal Government Spokesperson has firmly denied allegations circulating on the Facebook account of self-exiled opposition figure Sam Rainsy. The allegations accuse Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate, of having ties with Bangchak, a prominent Thai energy company.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the misinformation claims that Samdech Techo Hun Sen allegedly attempted to purchase 24 percent of Bangchak shares, valued at billions of U.S. dollars, through a South African broker. However, the Thai Social Security Fund reportedly refused to sell these shares. A statement released by the Spokesperson this afternoon confirmed that these claims are entirely baseless.
The statement emphasized that Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, and their families have no connections with the alleged South African broker and have never acquired shares from any Thai company, as suggested by the allegations. The Spokesperson highlighted that the Facebook account in question frequently spreads false, fabricated, exaggerated, or distorted information, often sourced from unreliable origins, with the intent of discrediting Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, their families, and other senior government officials. Such actions aim to undermine the popularity of the national leadership, which maintains significant respect and support from the Cambodian public.
The Spokesperson further noted that the recent actions of the individual reflect a treasonous intent and a deliberate effort to harm the nation, drawing strong condemnation from Cambodians both domestically and internationally. Despite this, the individual continues to disseminate falsehoods that pose a threat to national unity.
The statement concluded by reiterating that the Royal Government, under the leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, former Prime Minister, and Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, current Prime Minister, has consistently acted in the best interests of the nation and its people, serving as a steadfast protective force whenever the country faces challenges.
