KUCHING, The Federal Territories (FT) took the first gold on offer for table tennis in the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) here today after a 3-0 win over Penang in the mixed team event. The action at SJK Chung Hua here saw FT mixed doubles pair Gan Ai Lis and Im Jin Zhen making a strong comeback, overcoming Cindy Ma and Marcus Lok Chung Tan with scores of 9-11, 9-11, 11-7, 11-9, and 11-9, securing the winning point for FT. Earlier FT women's singles player Lim Jing Shuen had no problems defeating Penang's Amanda Hui Han Chua, 11-6, 11-6 dan 11-1 but Lee Yee Jat-Tan Yi Heng faced a tougher battle before downing Sia Zheng Xun-Richard Rui Zhe Yap, 11-8, 9-11, 11-8 and 11-8. In the same category, Melaka took home the bronze medal after defeating Selangor 3-1, with victories in women's singles, men's doubles and men's singles.
