Thailand’s Legal Action Against Cambodia Criticized for Masking Hostile Policies, Says Cambodian Government

Phnom penh: The Royal Government of Cambodia has firmly rejected the legal action announced by the Thai government against Cambodia, calling it entirely baseless and a clear attempt to divert both domestic and international attention from Thailand's ongoing hostile policy-particularly its unprovoked military attacks against Cambodian territory.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC) has emphasized that the legal action is an attempt to deflect criticism over Thailand's actions, which include civilian casualties, violations of international humanitarian law, and non-compliance with ceasefire agreements. H.E. Chum Sounry, Secretary of State and Spokesperson for MFAIC, asserted during a press briefing that the accusations are unfounded and politically motivated.

The spokesperson outlined Cambodia's stance, stating that recent border conflicts were instigated by Thai military incursions, violating Cambodian sovereignty. Cambodia's response, they claim, was a legitimate act of self-defense, adhering to Article 51 of the UN Charter. Furthermore, the Cambodian government emphasized its adherence to international humanitarian law and its commitment to protecting civilians, unlike Thailand's alleged violations.

Cambodia remains committed to peace and urges Thailand to cease its disinformation campaign and hostile actions. The Cambodian government calls for a return to constructive dialogue, in line with the ceasefire agreement and in the spirit of ASEAN solidarity.
