Phnom penh: The Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC) has strongly refuted claims and allegations made by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs during a press briefing held in Bangkok on Aug. 5, 2025.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Chum Sounry, Secretary of State and Spokesperson of the MFAIC, addressed these allegations during a regular press conference in Phnom Penh. In a detailed four-point clarification, he contested Thailand's narrative, emphasizing Cambodia's commitment to peaceful resolution and diplomacy.
The first point addressed the Thai Ministry's claims of bringing Cambodia back to talks. The MFAIC spokesperson described these statements as an attempt to claim undue credit, asserting that Cambodia has consistently worked towards de-escalating tensions and fostering peace. Cambodia remains committed to resolving issues through bilateral dialogue and ASEAN facilitation, adhering to international law.
The second clarification refuted claims of provocations by Cambodia, highlighting concerns over Thailand's military activities along the shared border. Cambodia accused Thailand of violating the ceasefire agreement and undermining diplomatic efforts. The MFAIC urged Thailand to halt all unilateral military actions to avoid reigniting hostilities and to engage in constructive dialogue.
Regarding Thailand's portrayal of its military actions as proportionate, Cambodia categorically rejected this characterization. The MFAIC claimed that Thai armed forces initiated recent escalations with incursions into Cambodian territory, accompanied by artillery and aerial operations. Cambodia insists that its actions were purely defensive and aligned with international law.
Lastly, Cambodia dismissed allegations of spreading disinformation, viewing them as attempts by Thailand to divert attention from the actual situation. Cambodia emphasized its commitment to transparency and factual communication, inviting neutral third parties, including ASEAN and international observers, to verify the facts impartially.
