Trump Urges NATO to Halt Russian Oil Purchases Before Sanctions

Washington: United States President Donald Trump declared his readiness to impose stringent sanctions on Russia, contingent upon all NATO countries ceasing their oil purchases from the nation.

According to Philippines News Agency, Trump conveyed his stance via his Truth Social platform, emphasizing that he is prepared to implement major sanctions on Russia only if all NATO members collectively agree and act to stop buying Russian oil. He criticized some alliance members for continuing these purchases, describing the situation as "shocking" and suggesting it undermines NATO's negotiating power.

Trump expressed skepticism about NATO's commitment to achieving a decisive outcome, stating that the current actions of some member countries weaken the alliance's position. He also expressed willingness to proceed with sanctions once NATO members are aligned, stating, "Anyway, I am ready to 'go' when you are. Just say when."

Furthermore, Trump called for NATO countries to impose tariffs ranging from 50 to 100 percent on China, arguing that such measures could expedite the resolution of the Ukrainian crisis. He suggested that these tariffs could be lifted following a peaceful settlement. Trump labeled the ongoing conflict in Ukraine as "[Joe] Biden's and [Vladimir] Zelensky's war" and asserted that adherence to his proposed measures by NATO would swiftly conclude the war and save lives.

Trump concluded by warning that failure to follow his recommendations would be a waste of time and resources for both the United States and NATO.
