U.S. Welcomes Cambodia-Thailand Ceasefire Declaration

Kuala lumpur: The United States applauds the ceasefire declaration between Cambodia and Thailand announced today in Kuala Lumpur, said H.E. Marco Rubio, U.S. Secretary of State in a press statement on Monday.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Marco Rubio emphasized the commitment of President Trump and himself to an immediate cessation of violence. He expressed expectations for the governments of Cambodia and Thailand to fully honor their commitments to end the conflict.

H.E. Marco Rubio also extended his gratitude to Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for his leadership and for hosting the ceasefire talks. The statement urged all involved parties to adhere to their commitments and assured that the United States would remain committed to and engaged in this U.S.-Malaysia-organised process to end the conflict.

The ceasefire agreement follows five days of armed clashes along the border, with Cambodia and Thailand agreeing to implement an immediate and unconditional ceasefire starting at midnight tonight.
