Phnom penh: The 3rd City Ring Road, known as Xi Jinping Boulevard, has been temporarily closed for two and a half years starting from September 1, 2025, to facilitate the construction of the Dei Ith-Thmar Kor Mekong Bridge, according to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT).
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the closure will remain in effect until February 1, 2028, covering the section between the intersection of Road No. 116A (KM 2+800) and National Road No. 1. The ministry highlighted the need for this closure to ensure the smooth progress of the bridge construction.
The Dei Ith-Thmar Kor Mekong Bridge is strategically located, with its western part in Dei Ith commune, Kien Svay district, and its eastern part in Thmar Kor commune, Lvea Em district, Kandal province. The bridge is expected to significantly improve regional connectivity upon completion.
MPWT has announced provisional detours to manage traffic during the closure. Light vehicles are advised to use Road No. 116A, while heavy vehicles should opt for Road No. 12A. Despite the closure, traffic along National Road No. 1, which crosses the project area, will continue to flow normally, minimizing disruption for commuters and transport vehicles.
