Phnom penh: The Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces has reaffirmed Brunei's continued support for the Interim Observer Team (IOT) mechanism and stressed the importance of peacefully resolving the Cambodia-Thailand border issue to safeguard lasting peace between the two neighbouring countries and across the region. H.E. Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Muhammad Haszaimi Bin Bol Hassan reiterated this support during a courtesy call on Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh this morning.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Samdech Thipadei thanked Brunei for its support and participation in the IOT, and briefed the Commander on the latest developments along the Cambodia-Thailand border. He underscored Cambodia's firm position of resolving the issue peacefully in accordance with bilateral agreements, conventions, treaties, and international law.
On bilateral cooperation, both leaders highly valued the growing ties and cooperation between the armed forces of Cambodia and Brunei, both bilaterally and within the ASEAN framework. H.E. Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Muhammad Haszaimi Bin Bol Hassan reaffirmed Brunei's commitment to further strengthen and expand military cooperation with Cambodia.
Samdech Thipadei praised the Commander's visit to Cambodia as a significant step toward enhancing military relations, and thanked Brunei for its continued support in training Cambodian armed personnel. The Prime Minister expressed hope that the two militaries will continue to deepen their cooperation through exchanges of visits at all levels, joint training exercises, and collaboration in combating transnational crimes, among other areas.
