Henan province: H.E. Dr. Kin Phea, Director General of the International Relations Institute of Cambodia at the Royal Academy of Cambodia, delivered a compelling address at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Media and Think Tank Summit in Henan Province, China, from July 23-27, 2025, outlining Cambodia's vision for sustainable and equitable development within the SCO region.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Media and Think Tank Summit is held under the theme 'Carry Forward the 'Shanghai Spirit', Jointly Build a Harmonious Homeland'. In his address, Dr. Kin Phea emphasised the importance of transforming the SCO into a platform for systemic change, bridging gaps between member states to foster resilience and innovation.
Dr. Kin Phea proposed the establishment of SCO Regional Clusters for Sustainable Innovation, a collaborative initiative involving municipalities, universities, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to pilot solutions in climate resilience, rural connectivity, and digital inclusion. These clusters would leverage Cambodia's experience in grassroots development and regional cooperation, he said.
He called for expanding the SCO University Alliance and academic exchange programmes, particularly in sustainability-related fields. He also proposed a SCO Annual Policy Challenge to engage young scholars in addressing cross-border issues like water security and smart urban, a move reflecting Cambodia's commitment to youth empowerment and knowledge-sharing.
The SCO Summit continues until July 27, with further discussions on regional cooperation and sustainable growth.
