Foreign Embassies Welcome the Opening of Techo International Airport

Phnom penh: The Chinese, German, and British Embassies in Cambodia have extended their congratulations to the Royal Government of Cambodia on the launch of Techo International Airport on Sept. 9.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Chinese Ambassador H.E. Wang Wenbin welcomed the opening of Cambodia's largest international airport, noting that the first flight to land at the new facility carried tourists from China. 'This new airport and the 'China-Cambodia Tourism Year' will surely bring the number of inbound Chinese tourists to a new high,' he emphasised.

The German Embassy expressed optimism that the new airport will boost travel between Germany and Cambodia. With over 70,000 German visitors recorded last year, the embassy hopes the number will continue to grow, further strengthening ties between the two nations. 'We wish Techo International Airport every success as it starts welcoming the world today - Herzlichen Glckwunsch Cambodia!' the statement read.

The British Embassy said it is thrilled to see Cambodia open another major gateway for international travellers and businesses. 'With its stunning and sustainable design by British firm Foster + Partners, the UK is proud to contribute to Cambodia's next chapter of development,' the embassy stated. 'Congratulations on the successful opening - we look forward to the official inauguration in October!'

The large-scale 4F-rated Techo International Airport (TIA) is scheduled for official inauguration on Oct. 20, 2025, under the presidency of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet.

Situated on more than 2,600 hectares of land in Prek Sleng commune, Kandal Stung district of Kandal province-and partly in Bati district, Takeo province-the new airport lies approximately 20 kilometres from Phnom Penh.

Also on Sept. 9, the Phnom Penh City Bus Authority launched an Airport Express Bus service to connect TIA with the city centre, offering convenient, safe, and affordable transportation for both domestic and international travellers.

The bus line runs between the Kouch Kanong Roundabout Bus Terminal, near the French Embassy, and TIA from 5:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., with only four stops: Canadia Park (in front of the Royal Railway Station, Preah Monivong Blvd.), Royal University of Law and Economics (Preah Monivong Blvd.), BRED Bank (Samdech Techo Hun Sen Blvd. / 60 Metres Street), and AEON Mall Meanchey (Samdech Techo Hun Sen Blvd. / 60 Metres Street).
