Samdech Krolahom Sar Kheng Inspects Daung International Border Checkpoint Amid Rising Repatriations

Phnom penh: Samdech Krolahom Sar Kheng, Member of the Supreme Privy Council to His Majesty the King and Member of the National Assembly for Battambang province, today, conducted an inspection visit to the Daung International Border Checkpoint in Kamrieng district, Battambang province. The visit comes as the checkpoint experiences a significant increase in Cambodian migrant workers returning from Thailand.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the heightened number of returnees is largely attributed to recent armed clashes along the Cambodia-Thailand border, which have prompted many Cambodian nationals to leave Thailand and seek safe passage back home via the Daung International Border. During his visit, Samdech Sar Kheng observed the current border situation and extended a welcome to the returning Cambodian workers.

He commended the government officials stationed at the checkpoint for their efforts in facilitating the safe and orderly repatriation process. He further instructed provincial and relevant authorities to continue ensuring the smooth and secure return of Cambodian citizens to their home provinces.

In response to this growing influx, the Battambang provincial administration, in coordination with officials from the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, has implemented urgent measures to assist the returnees. These actions include arranging transportation to help workers reach their home provinces, establishing temporary reception centres, providing meals and essential necessities, and offering counseling and guidance to support their reintegration.

Authorities have reaffirmed their steadfast commitment to safeguarding the well-being of all returning workers during this critical period.
