Thailand’s Unilateral Border Closure Leads to Significant Growth in Cambodian Domestic Products, Says Samdech Techo

Phnom penh: Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State of Cambodia, this evening extended his gratitude to Thailand as its unilateral border closure has prevented the import of Thai goods, which in turn has led to significant growth in Cambodian domestic products.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his appreciation for the positive economic impact resulting from the border closure. He emphasized that the closure has spurred a significant increase in the consumption and production of Cambodian domestic goods, strengthening the local economy. Cambodian citizens have rallied to support locally made products, thereby contributing to long-term economic development.

He addressed the ongoing ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, aimed at preventing further conflict and preserving lives and infrastructure. Despite the border closure's economic benefits, Samdech Techo Hun Sen reiterated Cambodia's stance of not requesting the reopening of the border. He stated that Cambodia would not lower itself to plead with Thailand for the border's reopening and affirmed Cambodia's resilience, even if the closure were to last for an extended period.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also acknowledged Japan's request for transportation across the border due to its investments in both countries. He mentioned that Cambodia has already granted its approval for such transportation and suggested that Japan should address the Thai side regarding this matter.

In conclusion, he called on the Cambodian populace to remain patient and trust the Royal Government's efforts to resolve the situation peacefully, emphasizing that conflict cannot be ended with further conflict.
